In Love, Never Say Never(68)

Chapter 68

I nodded and asked, “What about AC?” I knew the auditing process for Quinn Corporation could take some time.

“Mm! It’s going smoothly,” Stacey replied.

I began flipping through the documents, but suddenly remembered I had a business trip tomorrow. Glancing up, I asked, “What time is my flight to A City?”

“5 a.m.!” Stacey answered promptly. After a brief pause, she added, “We plan to wrap things up in A City in two days, so we should get there as early as possible. A representative from Harrison Credit will also be joining us.”

“Okay,” I responded. “I can go alone. You should stay here to assist Harrison Credit and AC.”

“Sure!”

The rainy season in J City had cast a perpetual gloom over the city. Yesterday, the sun had barely peered through the clouds for a few hours before it started pouring again.

By 5 p.m., I had finally finished reviewing the documents. My eyes were dry from staring at the screen for too long, so I asked Stacey to help me buy some eye drops.

After finishing my daily report, it was already 6 p.m.

My stomach rumbled with hunger. I switched off my laptop and headed downstairs. As the workday had ended, the employees were all leaving the building.

They greeted me politely as I passed by. I forced a smile, nodding in acknowledgment, and quickly exited. A KFC was right next to our building, so I entered and ordered a meal for one.

While waiting for my order, a few young ladies greeted me shyly. “Ms. Stovall, what a coincidence!”

I smiled faintly and racked my brain to remember who they were.

A professional-looking young woman stepped forward. “Ms. Stovall, I’m Isabelle Leek from the Electronic Design Department.”

Her words sparked a memory. I was in charge of HiTech’s case now and occasionally visited the Design Department. That explained how they knew me.

Fuller Corporation was so vast that even though we worked in the same building, we only interacted with a select few colleagues.

I smiled warmly at the young ladies, nodded, and left with my fried chicken.

“Izzy, I didn’t know the higher-ups eat fried chicken like us!”

“The higher-ups are people too. Why can’t they eat fried chicken?”

“They make so much more than we do. I thought they’d eat something better!”

I left the restaurant, and their conversation faded as I walked away.

Men would never be satisfied with what they had. When poor, they worked hard to earn money. When rich, they wallowed in love and status.

After a long day of work, I slid into the car and began chomping on my fried chicken. Just as I was finishing, a car honked nearby. I rolled down the window.

A sleek black Maybach was parked right beside me. The only black Maybach I knew of was in the villa’s garage.

I couldn’t remember anyone else who owned such a car, so I assumed it was a stranger. I rolled the window back up, preparing to leave.

Suddenly, the Maybach’s window rolled down, and Nick’s cheeky face appeared. “Hey, gorgeous. Wanna have dinner together?”

How childish!

I rolled my eyes and raised my fried chicken in front of him. “I’m sorry, but I’ve already eaten.”

Frowning, Nick leaned further out of the car. “You’re pregnant. How could you eat this? Is Ashton mistreating you?”

I ignored his comment, annoyed.

After finishing the chicken, I started the engine and was about to leave when Nick parked his car directly in front of mine, blocking me.

“Scarlett, come on. Let’s have dinner together!” he insisted.

I was beyond irritated. “I’m full!”

“Then spend some time with me!” he said, without any sense of urgency.

His car had completely blocked the lane, and the honking from other drivers started to intensify. But Nick just sat there, grinning at me.

I slapped my forehead in frustration. “Fine. Lead the way.”

With a mischievous glint in his eyes, he said, “Let me drive you there. You shouldn’t be driving while pregnant!”

Damn it!

I reluctantly exited my car and climbed into his Maybach, taking the passenger seat. “Will you leave now?” I asked, my voice cool.

Grinning widely, he replied, “Of course. Let’s go!”

Young men like him were so ostentatious. Instead of being discreet, he opened the convertible top in the middle of the city.

It was ridiculous.

The wind was chilly, but I didn’t say anything. He could do whatever he wanted.

“Scarlett, do you think we’ll show up in J City’s gossip column tomorrow?” he yelled over the rock music blasting from the car.

I rolled my eyes and ignored him.

If we did make it into the gossip column, it would definitely be his doing.

His car pulled up to a lively area of the city, a place where young people liked to hang out.
