In Love, Never Say Never

In Love, Never Say Never(81)

Chapter 81

I froze in the car, the coldness of John’s grip sending shivers down my spine. His presence, so suffocating, seemed to invade every inch of the small space. I could feel my heart hammering in my chest, and for a moment, I couldn’t quite register what was happening. My mind screamed at me to get out, to push him away, but the weight of his words, the overwhelming sense of power he exuded, paralyzed me for just a moment too long.

“Scarlett, don’t make this harder than it needs to be,” John’s voice was smooth, like he was enjoying my discomfort. His eyes gleamed with something far too knowing, and his grip tightened around me, not allowing for any chance of escape.

I pulled myself together, breathing deeply to steady my racing heart. “John, what are you trying to do?” My voice came out much weaker than I wanted, but I forced myself to stand my ground. “This isn’t some game. I’m not playing by your rules anymore.”

He laughed softly, his low chuckle sending a ripple of unease through me. “It’s not a game, Scarlett. This is just me showing you how things really work. You’ve been avoiding me for too long, but now, I think it’s time for you to realize that I control this little game of ours.”

His words were sharp, cutting through me like a blade. I struggled to stay composed, but my body betrayed me with every trembling breath. I had been dreading this moment for years—the moment when I would finally face the monster that my brother had become.

I shoved against his chest, trying to create some space between us, but his strength was overpowering. “Let go of me!” I hissed, trying to sound more assertive than I felt.

John’s smile never wavered, his expression almost too calm, too collected. “You always were so feisty, Scarlett. It’s one of the things I admire about you. But you need to understand, I’m not letting you go so easily. Not this time.”

I felt a deep sense of dread pooling in the pit of my stomach as I realized there was no way out of this. The more I fought, the more he seemed to enjoy it, and I couldn’t help but feel like I was trapped in his web.

The car slowed, and I could hear the faint sound of chatter and music in the distance. I didn’t know where we were, but I had a sinking feeling I wasn’t going to like it.

Before I could say anything else, the car came to a stop, and John, without any hint of hesitation, opened the door and motioned for me to step out. “We’re here, Scarlett. I think you’ll find this party… interesting.”

I couldn’t bring myself to move, my mind too clouded with confusion and fear. “John, please,” I whispered, my voice shaking. “I don’t want to be a part of this.”

He leaned in close, his face inches from mine, his breath warm against my skin. “You don’t have a choice, Scarlett. You’ll do as I say. Just like you always have.”

With those final words, he gave me no room to argue and gently tugged me out of the car. His grip on my arm was unrelenting as he led me into a lavish, sprawling estate that screamed wealth and power from every corner.

As we walked deeper into the house, the reality of my situation began to set in. I wasn’t just a sister to John anymore—I was a pawn, a tool in whatever dark game he was playing. And as I looked around at the faces of the guests milling about, the only thing I could think of was how far I had fallen, how much I had allowed him to control me.

John’s grip on me tightened as he pulled me further into the crowd, and I could feel my heart sinking. This wasn’t the party I had imagined—this was something much darker, much more dangerous.

I had no idea what John was planning, but I knew one thing for sure: I had to get out of here.
