Chapter 95
Shortly after, I heard the sound of Ashton starting his car downstairs.
Still feeling drowsy, I fell back asleep as soon as he left.
It was already 9 a.m. when I woke up. As soon as I opened my eyes, my phone rang—Ashton was calling.
I answered, still lying down, “Hello?”
“Are you awake?” he asked, sounding in a good mood.
“Yeah,” I mumbled.
“Get up and let’s have breakfast together. I’ll be waiting for you at the office,” he said.
Stunned, I instinctively replied, “I’m eating at home.”
“Joseph’s waiting for you downstairs,” Ashton replied. I could hear someone knocking on his door in the background, so I guessed he was about to attend to something. “I’ll be waiting for you!” he added before quickly hanging up.
I rested for a few more minutes before washing up and heading downstairs. I found Mrs. Eriksen making tea, while Joseph was sitting in the living room, looking rather serious.
When Mrs. Eriksen saw me, she smiled warmly and said, “Letty, Mr. Ashton asked Mr. Campbell to fetch you for breakfast.”
It seemed that Ashton had already made arrangements with her before. I nodded and left the villa.
When we arrived at the office, Joseph led me directly to Ashton’s office and poured me a cup of water before leaving. Ashton was still in the middle of a video conference.
Upon seeing me enter, he stood up, walked toward me, and placed a plate of nuts in front of me. He kissed my forehead before returning to his conference.
Since I had just woken up and wasn’t particularly hungry, I sat down on the sofa and fiddled with my phone. After a while, Ashton finished the conference and sat down beside me.
“Are you hungry?” he asked.
I shook my head, still focused on my phone. He gave Joseph a quick call before holding my hand and massaging my fingertips. “Is your hand still sore?”
It took me a moment to realize what he was referring to, and I blushed, pulling my hand away. “What are we eating?” I changed the subject.
“You’ll find out later,” he said with a smile, pulling me into his arms and gently pressing my head against his chest.
I felt uneasy and was about to pull away, but he hugged my waist tighter. “Let me hug you for a while.”
Just then, Joseph entered with a bag containing several boxes. After placing it on the table, he left.
At that moment, Ashton received another call. Understanding that he was busy, I took the boxes from the bag. Inside were pastries and soup from Granger’s.
I took a few bites, but since Ashton was occupied, I didn’t disturb him. I stood up, intending to return to my office when I unexpectedly bumped into Rebecca.
I wasn’t surprised to see her—she was holding some lunch boxes, likely for Ashton.
When she saw me walking out of his office, she immediately stepped forward, blocking my path.
“Why are you here?” Her tone was accusatory, almost like an interrogation.
I raised an eyebrow, unfazed. “Ms. Larson, do you think you’re better than everyone just because you wear luxury clothes and watches?”
Her newfound arrogance was unmistakable now that she was part of a wealthy family.
“Yeah, I’m superior to you. Only I’m worthy of Ashton,” she retorted, her face radiating arrogance.
I wasn’t in the mood to argue, so I calmly replied, “Yeah, both of you suit each other.”
With that, I tried to walk past her, but as I wore high heels that day, I didn’t notice the two pots of plants placed outside Ashton’s office and tripped over them.
In an attempt to steady myself, I instinctively grabbed the nearest thing to me—Rebecca. However, due to her own high heels, she lost balance too.
We both fell to the ground at the same time. I instinctively landed on my knees and elbows, while Rebecca fell in the opposite direction, landing on her butt with a loud shriek.
“Argh!” Her scream was so loud it caught Ashton and Joseph’s attention.
Ashton was still on the phone, but when he saw us sprawled on the floor, he frowned and rushed over to help Rebecca up first.
Then, he turned toward me. By then, Joseph had already helped me to my feet. He scrutinized me, his voice deep with concern. “Are you alright?”
I nodded, and when I saw Rebecca clutching her wrist in pain, I noticed a cut on the back of her hand, bleeding.
I purposely avoided Ashton’s outstretched hand and said, “Ms. Larson is injured. She should go to the hospital for her wound.”
Then, I looked at Joseph and asked, “Can you help me take a seat over there?”
Joseph nodded and assisted me in walking toward a couch in the lobby.
Rebecca, still feeling hurt and aggrieved, sobbed as tears streamed down her face. She turned to Ashton with a pitiful look. “Ash, it hurts!”
Ashton glanced at me briefly before instructing Joseph, “Send Ms. Larson to the hospital.”
“No!” Rebecca interjected, her eyes red. “Take me there, Ash. Otherwise, I won’t go!”
“I still have work to do,” Ashton replied flatly, not giving her much attention. He turned and headed back to his office, ignoring her upset expression.
