Chapter13

Mo Forest: “Let’s check the surveillance footage.” The staff member was taken aback for a moment; once they realized what was happening, they tried to smooth things over: “Sir, the backend surveillance cannot be accessed at will—it’s not about theft, nor is it anything serious…”  “How about we have this lady apologize?”  “Just a simple apology. The old lady can tell right away she’s a very reasonable person and certainly wouldn’t cause you any trouble, right?” She looked at the elderly woman beside her.

The old woman had initially wondered what use an apology would be, but after hearing the staff’s explanation, she felt much relieved and finally picked up her bowl.

“Alright, then apologize.” Lu Qin was furious: “It wasn’t me who hit him—why should I apologize?”  “Check the surveillance footage; it will quickly reveal who hit whom.” The staff member responded with a dry tone, somewhat displeased: “This lady, there’s no need to argue with a child of few years old. Even if he did hit you, what’s wrong with you apologizing?” Mo Sen remained expressionless: “Since that’s the case, why don’t you apologize on her behalf? It’s all the same whether someone else apologizes or not.” The staff member grew angry: “You…” Lu Qin, who had been somewhat irritated earlier, suddenly found herself amused by these words.

The elderly woman frowned coldly and said, “Go ahead and investigate if you must; it’s clearly her who hit my grandson. If anything happens to my grandson, all medical expenses, hospitalization costs, and diagnostic fees will be borne by this woman!” Seeing that both parties were adamant, the staff felt helpless and contacted the responsible official, who instructed her to bring someone to review the surveillance footage.

The facts are clear.

It was indeed the little boy who hit someone.

Moreover, there was another unexpected little discovery.

The airplane model in the little boy’s hand is the latest model available at the supermarket, worth several thousand yuan.

old woman

The supermarket is not far from the residential area.

It’s only a few minutes’ walk away.

On the way back, Lu Qin walked ahead carrying a small shopping bag, while Mo Senlin followed behind with a large one.

A winter afternoon.

The sunlight falls warmly down.

The shadows of the two people overlap.

“Thank you just now,” Lu Qin said after a moment’s thought.

The footsteps behind them continued, but Lu Qin didn’t hear the man’s response. Instinctively turning her head, she happened to meet his gaze.

“Of course—it’s my fundamental professional duty as a bodyguard.” Lu Qin continued, “…”   “When did that start?” Mo Senlin smiled slightly. “This morning, when you prepared breakfast for me.”   “Oh, right.” Lu Qin was left speechless.

Actually, she was just afraid that Mo Senlin would starve to death.

After all, she would have to stay here for some time anyway; she certainly didn’t want to suddenly find herself featured in news reports about her neighbor dying from prolonged starvation. That’s why she felt a sudden sense of compassion this morning.

This is mainly because she relies on others for help.
