Chapter 17: A Special Gift

“Hello, is there something?” Nan Yue asked the store manager who had approached without her noticing.

The manager gave a polite smile and said, “Mr.Sheng asked me to thank you on his behalf for saving the elderly lady and Miss Ren from danger; this is a token of appreciation—please accept it.” With that, he took out a check from his suit pocket and handed it to Nan Yue.

Nan Yue glanced at him unexpectedly before taking the check. The amount was left blank—did she really have to fill it in herself? This gift, however, was quite extraordinary.

Noticing her calm demeanor—free from surprise, fear, or any hint of greed—the manager decided to observe her for a bit longer.

He then added, “If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time.” This time, what was handed over was his business card.

Nan Yue took the items with both hands and tucked them into his pocket along with the check, his face beaming with a proper and generous smile: “Thank you.”  “You’re welcome; I have other matters at the office. I’ll be off now—please feel free to proceed.” The manager demonstrated excellent professional etiquette; Nan Yue didn’t press further, nor did he inquire about anything that shouldn’ t have been his concern.

“Goodbye.” Nan Yue nodded and, after watching the manager leave, followed him down the stairs via the escalator.

She remained completely impassive, while 005 had a multitude of questions to ask; in the end, she merely uttered a faint remark.

[Congratulations, host!] [Well, if I’m not mistaken, this Sheng is the president of Shengshi Entertainment and Sheng Jingheng’s brother?] [That’s right.] Nan Yue nodded thoughtfully; Yuan Yuan’s surname is Ren, so she’s likely from Mrs.Sheng’s family or another relative.

However, the old lady’s attitude toward Sheng Jingheng is truly thought-provoking.

However, such items were mostly found only among materials that required exchanging for Spirit Stones. Nan Yue promptly suppressed his curiosity and didn’t ask 005 about them.

[Host, 100 Spirit Stones aren’t expensive at all—and they’re absolutely worth every penny; you won’t regret it!] [Xiao Wu, have you heard that saying: the more you know, the faster you die?] […] [You must be wondering what just happened, right?] [Would you like me to tell you?] [I checked my financial fortune and realized I was about to meet a benefactor here. When I met the elderly lady, observing her facial features revealed that she was destined to face a minor tribulation, which aligned perfectly with my prediction.] 005 fell into a mysterious silence—were all those great masters of cultivation truly that powerful? Nan Yue stroked the check in his pocket, his lips slightly curved; he already knew exactly how much amount to write on it.

Meanwhile, Yuanyuan accompanied her grandmother into their car and glanced at the black commercial vehicle following behind, feeling a sense of admiration.

I wonder how many people envy her for having such a cousin. Unfortunately, Grandma doesn’t like him, and he’s not close to the Ren family either.

Only his own father could manage to say a few words to him.

“Grandma,” Yuan Yuan interrupted her thought and looked at the old lady, asking, “Should we prepare a gift for Nan Yue?”  “Hm?” The old lady was slightly surprised. “Is that the name of the little girl just mentioned? How many years older is she than you? She should be called ‘sister’.”  “Yes, then what gift should we buy? Why not just send her a red envelope?” Yuan Yuan was reading *Idol New Era* and probably knew that Nan Yue came from a small city; unable to afford tuition fees, she had dropped out of school to participate in talent shows.

So, giving her money directly would be the best option.

The elderly lady said with a cheerful smile, “My dear Yuanyuan has grown up and is now sensible enough; however, this is an adult matter, and they will handle it appropriately.” Behind her kind and affectionate smile lay a hint of deep reflection. Nan Yue’s appearance had been utterly coincidental, yet he insisted on holding her still as if he knew beforehand that something would happen.

Of course, one should thank someone; however, if there are ulterior motives, that’s a different matter altogether.
