In Love, Never Say Never(99)

Chapter 99

As we drove through the quiet streets, my mind kept returning to the black Cadillac and the man who had stepped out earlier. Felix’s presence had caught me off guard, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something about the situation wasn’t entirely right.

I tried to push the thought aside, but the unease lingered, gnawing at the edges of my thoughts. Ashton was still holding my hand, and his reassuring grip gave me a momentary sense of comfort, but my mind kept wandering back to Felix. Why did he seem so familiar? What was his connection to AC Credit? And why did I feel like there was something more to this encounter than just a polite introduction?

Ashton noticed my distracted expression and glanced at me, his brow furrowing in concern. “You’re quiet tonight. What’s on your mind?”

I hesitated, unsure if I should bring it up. “Felix,” I finally said, my voice a little shaky. “He… he works at AC Credit, right? I don’t know why, but something about him feels familiar. I think I’ve seen him before, but I can’t quite place where.”

Ashton’s expression shifted slightly, though he kept his focus on the road. “Felix is a sharp guy. But I wouldn’t worry about it. If you’ve met him before, it’s likely in a business setting. AC Credit and Fuller Corporation cross paths occasionally, especially in dealings related to finance.”

I nodded, but the feeling in the pit of my stomach didn’t dissipate. It didn’t feel like just a coincidence. Still, I didn’t want to press Ashton further on it, not when he was already doing so much for me.

“Maybe you’re right,” I murmured, squeezing his hand back. “I’m probably just overthinking it.”

Ashton didn’t seem convinced, but he didn’t push me further. Instead, he simply smiled, his voice soft. “I’ll take care of you, okay? Whatever it is, we’ll handle it together.”

His words were meant to reassure me, and in a way, they did. But a part of me couldn’t shake the nagging thought that Felix was somehow tied to something bigger—something that might be linked to Ashton’s business or even to the recent turmoil surrounding OrbitTech.

We reached home not long after, and as I stepped out of the car, I felt a chill from the evening air. Ashton placed his hand on my back, guiding me toward the door, and I couldn’t help but feel thankful for his presence. He might not know what was on my mind, but I knew that I didn’t have to face any of it alone.

Still, as I lay in bed later that night, the thought of Felix and the black Cadillac lingered in the back of my mind. I hoped it was just a passing worry, but the unease remained. Something told me I hadn’t seen the last of him.
