Chapter 16: How Did You Get Here?

Nan Yue was unable to answer Yuan Yuan’s question.

The elderly lady sitting behind approached with her phone, saying that someone from home had come to pick them up.

Yuan Yuan’s little face immediately fell into sadness, so she leaned in and coaxed the old lady to speak kindly on her behalf, hoping to avoid being scolded at home.

Nanyue neither participated in it nor left.

The person who was supposed to come hadn’t arrived yet; instead, a man dressed in a suit with a nameplate hanging from his chest rushed over first.

He was just on the first floor; he must be the manager of the shopping mall.

When she heard about what had happened on the first floor, the old lady turned pale with fear, then quickly grabbed Yuanyuan’s hand while repeatedly saying, “Fortunately.”

Yuan Yuan slightly pursed her lips and instinctively looked at Nan Yue.

Nan Yue, however, had her eyelids slightly lowered, lost in thought—perhaps it was an illusion—but Yuan Yuan noticed that her face had become even paler than before.

The elderly lady also noticed Nan Yue; with her other empty hand, she reached out and thanked her warmly, saying emotionally, “I truly owe it to you—otherwise Yuan Yuan might have gotten into trouble, and my frail health would have been compromised as well.”  “Grandma, there’s no need for formalities; as long as you’re fine,” Nan Yue replied, raising her eyes and smiling calmly to reassure her.

“Yes, it’s fine,” the old lady said, turning back to look at Yuanyuan. “Next time we’ll see your brothers; we need a venue with seats and no crowding, okay?” Yuanyuan nodded obediently, “I understand.” Nan Yue accompanied the two people to wait for them, while the manager stepped aside to answer a phone call.

She didn’t think much about it, assuming it might be the driver or Yuan Yuan’s parents coming to pick her up. To her surprise, it was Sheng Jingheng—the man she had only met the previous night.

He was followed by a group of people—including his agent’s assistant and bodyguard—none of whom were left behind.

Fortunately, it was still early in the morning, and due to MOON’s event schedule, regular customers couldn’t make it inside, so there were hardly any customers on the third floor.

When she saw him, Yuan Yuan was somewhat surprised, then instinctively turned her head to look at Nan Yue.

The man took large steps and soon approached. He removed his sunglasses, then his deep-set eyes swept lightly over Nanyue before settling on the elderly woman.

“Madam, are you alright?” When she saw him, the old lady’s expression turned distant and indifferent. “I’m fine; Yuan Yuan is fine too. Why did you come?”  “I was just discussing work matters at the company,” Sheng Jingheng replied, standing straight beside her with unwavering respect—no exaggeration, no understatement.

Shengshi Entertainment is right nearby, making it extremely convenient and quick to visit – which is precisely why they asked him to pick someone up.

The elderly woman responded but had no intention of saying much more. She simply pulled Yuan Yuan to her feet and asked if Nan Yue needed them to accompany him on the way.

Nan Yue shook her head and said, “Thank you for your kindness, Grandma, but I have other matters to attend to.”  “Then let’s go back first. You’re a good child; you’ll have great fortune ahead!” The old lady took her hand and gave it a pat. Her smile faded when she turned to Sheng Jingheng.

The grandfather and grandson walked ahead on their own, while Sheng Jingheng led the group and followed behind them.

Throughout the entire interaction, except for that initial glance, Sheng Jingheng never looked at Nan Yue again nor showed any intention of speaking to her.

Nan Yue was quite deliberate about not approaching him; instead, she exchanged a glance with his agent, clearly perceiving the curiosity and scrutiny in his eyes.

As for her conscience, she had no idea whatsoever that this elderly woman and Yuan Yuan could actually be connected to Sheng Jingheng.

The group left near the employee elevator, and 005 also emerged from there.

“Host, have you figured that out too? Do you still need any information about Sheng Jingheng?”  “No, not needed—shut up.” Nan Yue turned away, her expression cold; she’d been hoping to earn some extra money, but now she was completely exhausted and had nothing left.

One shouldn ‘t feel soft-hearted upon seeing Yuan Yuan’s snow-white little face—what does her future have to do with me? “May I ask, are you Miss Nanyue?”
