Chapter 1

“Teacher, is Ye Chuyao okay?”   “She’s fine; it’s just heatstroke. She’ll recover after lying down for a while. Once she wakes up, have her take the medicine and skip the afternoon military training.”   “…” On the hospital bed in the school clinic lay a girl wearing a school uniform. She had beautiful features and fair skin; the wide-collared short-sleeved uniform accentuated her petite face. However, she was tightly closed-eyed, with a pale complexion and a slight sweat on her forehead, indicating a rather concerning condition.

By her bedside stood another girl in identical school uniform, anxiously addressing the school nurse. Their voices were loud enough to wake the person on the bed within moments. The young girl opened her eyes, her gaze still somewhat confused.

“Yao Yao, have you woken up?! How are you feeling?” The noise behind her made the girl ahead turn around. Seeing Ye Chuyao awake, she ran excitedly to her bedside and, worriedly, took her hand and asked.

“What time is it now?” Ye Chuyao’s eyes gradually focused; she looked up at the girl with short hair and round face before her for a long moment, then pursed her lips and asked.

“It’s already 11:50; everyone has gone to the cafeteria for lunch. But don’t worry—I’ve asked the class monitor to pack our meals for us, and he’ll bring them here for you.” Upon hearing this, Liu Qian thought she was concerned about lunch arrangements and looked down at the time.

Upon hearing this, Ye Chuyao nodded without further comment. Noticing the phone placed by her bedside, she propped herself up against the bed and picked it up to glance at it: August 25,20xx—exactly one year before her heart transplant surgery, during the military training period preceding her senior high school enrollment. She had been reborn back in that specific year.

“Yao Yao, take the medicine first. After taking it, don’t attend the afternoon military training—I’ll help you get leave from the instructor,” Liu Qian said, noticing her friend was stunned, and handed her the medicine and water on the table.

Ye Chuyao said nothing; she took the medicine bottle and drank the entire bottle of Huoxiang Zhengqi Water in one gulp.

The pungent taste spread throughout her mouth—both spicy and bitter—as it rose directly into her nostrils. Yet Ye Chuyao showed no sign of discomfort; instead, the intense medicinal aroma made her feel significantly more alert.

Liu Qian was her high school deskmate and one of her few close friends, but they lost contact after the college entrance examination when her sister Ye Chuxin fell ill. She was confined at home by her adoptive parents and later forcibly taken to a private hospital for a heart transplant match, during which her own heart was successfully transplanted into Ye Chuxin on her birthday.

After her death, her soul drifted into a dimension where she read a book and realized she was merely a supporting character in it—a mere pawn. The Ye family had adopted her solely to serve as a heart donor for the protagonist, Ye Chuxin, ensuring she could donate her heart should the heroine ever fall ill.

What’s even more dramatic is that shortly after her death, her biological father—the wealthiest man in China—came knocking. After being devastated by the news of his daughter’s accidental passing, he mistakenly believed she had died accidentally and donated her heart. Overwhelmed with grief, he poured all his paternal love onto Ye Chuxin, who possessed her heart; not only did he adopt her as his stepdaughter, but he also introduced her to his own son—the protagonist of this story.

The male protagonist developed a strong affection for the female protagonist, who possessed his sister’s heart, and naturally chose to be with her. They shared a sweet, devoted relationship, eventually getting engaged and married with support from both families. After marriage, they had twins and lived happily ever after.

After reading the latter half of the book from God’s perspective, Ye Chuyao was nearly driven to despair. No wonder her adoptive parents never praised her—even for the best deeds she performed; they had treated her like a dead person from the moment they adopted her and naturally couldn’t develop any emotional connection with someone destined to die as a heart donor.

The very purpose of this book was to prolong the protagonist’s life; even after her death, her father and her own brother remained entirely devoted to her… Was she content with this? No way! She thus made a deal with the “person” who had transported her to this space, taking the original storyline to various book worlds sharing similar characteristics with her own world to fill existing gaps. After surviving several lifetimes, that “person” released her back into her original world where she was reborn.

It now appears she has been transported back to the very beginning of her senior year in high school, when Ye Chuxin had not yet fallen ill or been hospitalized, and was participating alongside her in the military training program for the new class of Grade 12 students at Jinglan High School.

“Yao Yao, why aren’t you speaking? Is there something else that’s bothering you?” Seeing her friend sitting motionless on the bed like a wooden statue, without uttering a word or moving a muscle, Liu Qian nervously shook her hand and called out.

“I’m fine; I was just overwhelmed by the strong smell of medicine and felt a bit dizzy,” Ye Chuyao said as she regained her composure, picked up her water cup, and drank a few sips. Although the memory was distant, she still recalled that in her previous life during military training, she had indeed fainted from heatstroke, but she didn’t go to the medical room—she simply woke up, took some medicine, sat down to rest for a while, and then continued helping Ye Chuxin.

Jinglan Middle School is a renowned elite institution in the city, boasting top-tier faculty and educational standards. Its students are either children from wealthy families or outstanding high-achievers who have excelled in exams—with a significant number coming from affluent backgrounds.

The Ye family was wealthy and influential, so they naturally sent their daughters to the best schools. Ye Chuxin was enrolled at Jinglan Middle School, while Ye Chuyao benefited from this arrangement as well. Her elder sister had poor health and heart problems, requiring her constant care; thus, she was more suited for a domestic role than formal schooling—carrying water, serving meals, and carrying her schoolbag were all tasks she performed. This time, she collapsed due to extreme heat and exhaustion.

“Huoxiang Zhengqi Water has such a strong flavor that it should naturally be consumed with water,” Liu Qian said, taking the empty cup from Ye Chuyao and refilling it for her. “By the way, when you lost consciousness, your sister called—would you like to call back?”  “No need, she had nothing good to discuss with me.” Upon hearing this, Ye Chuyao frowned and refused without hesitation; given her understanding of the other person, Ye Chuxin’s call was certainly not meant as a concern.

That said, Ye Chuyao still picked up her phone and opened WeChat. As soon as she did, seven or eight messages popped up—all sent by Ye Chuxin.

“Are you awake?”  “If you’re awake, go to the classroom right away and get me a clean towel
