Chapter 3: Suddenly Becoming Attractive

As soon as the prelude ended and Nam Viet’s singing began, the discussions in the audience hall fell silent instantly.

Most of these viewers are die-hard fans; after watching several episodes, each has developed a favorite contestant.

Of course, there are also those who dislike it, with the majority being opposed to Nanyue.

Since most of her teammates from the South Vietnam squad were quite popular, once they learned she was consistently holding the team back, they all wished she would be eliminated as soon as possible.

Especially in today’s solo performance, many people were already prepared; as soon as Nan Yue was eliminated, they went online to post various sufficiently proof to criticize her, leaving her no chance of turning the situation around.

Yet they realized that Nan Yue remained the same, yet she had suddenly become stunningly beautiful. Whether in her dance or singing, she never evoked any sense of disgust; instead, listeners found themselves involuntarily following her rhythm and gradually immersing themselves in this rather niche song.

In contrast to the audience who were completely immersed in the experience, the three judges only briefly lost focus before quickly returning to their composure.

Without thinking, Mu Jiaxuan glanced at Sheng Jingheng again and noticed that he maintained a completely indifferent expression throughout—the man seemed hardly affected by the significant changes in Nan Yue. She felt a quiet sense of relief.

True to his reputation as Sheng Jingheng, no matter what tricks the girl on stage pulled, none of them caught his eye.

“Jiaxuan, why do you keep watching Teacher Sheng perform? She’s portraying Nan Yue, not Teacher Sheng!” said Huo Tong, who is only twenty-two years old and also debuted through a talent show two years ago; as the champion, she became an overnight sensation.

However, I’m not quite qualified to serve as a reviewer.

Mu Jiaxuan shifted her gaze and replied calmly, “Then what are you looking at me for?”  “…” Huo Tong hummed inwardly before turning to speak with the male judge beside him, Yang Wenyan. “Brother Yang, how would you rate Nan Yue’s performance this time?” Yang Wenyan had been staring intently at the stage; upon hearing this, he slightly softened his admiration and said calmly, “For now, I’d give it eight out of ten.” A perfect score is ten points, while eight is a solid, average result.

Huo Tong merely nodded in agreement and said nothing more.

After a brief conversation, everyone’s attention once again turned to Nam Viet on stage.

Her song lacks any grandeur or climax, yet it’s inexplicably captivating—her expressionless face only adds to the immersive effect.

The light fell on her slightly pale face, yet it accentuated the clarity of her black-and-white eyes—resolute and noble.

As if she herself were the fallen nobleman depicted in the song.

For a moment, Huo Tong was completely absorbed in the performance; when it suddenly ended, he still felt a lingering sense of satisfaction and couldn’t tear himself away from the experience.

After a while, Yang Wenyan beside her also murmured, “Eight points are far too low; a full score would truly do justice to this brilliant performance!” With that, he immediately picked up the drawing board and pen, and swiftly wrote ten points on it.

Huo Tong was startled by his movements and noticed that Yang Wenyan was about to perform the song; he promptly reminded him, “Brother Yang, she hasn’t started yet.”  “Well, it would’ve been great if she’d performed another fast-paced or lyrical song,” Yang Wenyan said regretfully as he set down his instrument, deciding to wait until the host took the stage before performing.

This was an indirect way of giving a round of applause. As just a contestant in a talent show and not yet a singer, Huo Tong didn’t find anything wrong with being treated so highly—he even nodded in agreement.

Mu Jiaxuan listened carefully to the sounds coming from those two individuals, then turned to look at Sheng Jingheng.

Sheng Jingheng had already shifted his gaze away from the stage and began grading the performance.

Mu Jiaxuan gazed at his slender, fair fingers with a look of fascination in her eyes; when she saw what he had written, she was visibly shocked.
