Chapter11

“You misunderstood me; that’s not what I meant,” he said with a playful, smiling tone. “Don’t get upset—I know what you’re trying to say: you want to make a deal with me.” Lu Qin wished she could immediately bury herself in the ground.

She feigned calmness: “Oh, I just wanted to ask if you’d like to be my bodyguard. In return, I’ll cook for you.” Mo Senlin asked skeptically, “Huh?” Lu Qin counted on his fingers clearly: “You live alone with no food supplies at home; this will surely lead to trouble.”  “As for me, I’ve only been here for a month—I’ve already paid the rent and deposit, so I can’t leave anytime soon.”  “And I even ran into a pervert.”  “We need to help each other: you’ll be my bodyguard, and I’ll take care of your meals.”  “How about that?” Lu Qin looked at the man across from him nervously.

Mo Senlin leaned back against the sofa, his slender fingers inadvertently brushing against his lower lip; his posture and expression were strikingly reminiscent of a lazy cat.

He looked at Lu Qin and asked, “Are you sure about the three meals?” Lu Qin nodded promptly, fearing he might change his mind: “The food I cook is delicious; since you have digestive issues, I can learn to prepare health-oriented dishes!” Mo Senlin blinked.

“Agreed.” Mosenlin thought of another point: “Does your bodyguard accompany you at all times, or only during specific periods?”  “Uh,” Lu Qin pondered for a moment. “How about we exchange WeChat contacts? I’ll call you when I go out; otherwise, I stay home.”  “Oh,” Mosenlin lowered his head, took out his phone, scanned the QR code, and asked casually, “Where are your parents? Why don’t they live with you?” As a cartoonist, one should have ample free time.

Wouldn’t it be better to live with your parents?

Lu Qin paused for a moment and said, “I prefer independence.” Noticing she didn’t want to continue the conversation, Mo Senlin stopped asking further questions. After exchanging WeChat contacts, he returned home.

The next morning, Lu Qin retrieved the ingredients from the refrigerator and started by preparing her own dish.

After finishing her meal, she went to the kitchen to prepare Morfeng’s breakfast: she fried two eggs, warmed a cup of milk, and took out several slices of toast.

She opened the door.

I saw that Mo Forest had just come out.

With sleepy eyes, I could barely lean against the wall.

“Are you going to work?” Lu Qin noticed the man was still wearing the black hoodie, though there were no obvious dust marks on it.

Mo Senlin replied slowly, “No.” Lu Qin handed him the food and clapped his hands, saying, “Here—this is the breakfast I prepared for you as agreed yesterday.” Mo Senlin remained silent.

He took the food over.

Lu Qin was about to turn around when the man stopped her: “By the way, I forgot your keys yesterday; these are the backup ones.” Lu Qin was taken aback for a moment: “Oh.” She took the keys and noticed he had no intention of entering, so she asked curiously, “Is there anything else?”

Mo Senlin looked at her and said, “Do you have time later? Could you accompany me to the supermarket to buy some ingredients?”  “I can’t keep making you spend money.”  “OK,” Lu Qin replied readily with a gesture.

She had this intention in mind. Although her previous comic book was quite popular and could be considered a hit, she still faced some financial strain due to limited funds.

Lu Qin returned to her room and changed clothes. When she came out, the man was leaning against the wall playing a board game; he heard the noise and looked up.

“Are you ready?” Lu Qin replied, “Well, let’s go.” The two walked side by side—one in front, the other behind. Both appeared utterly lethargic, their steps as slow as those of a snail.

Lu Qin’s dark line: “…”. “haven’t you eaten?” she complained.

Mo Forest glanced at her, and his pace barely increased by just a little compared to before.

Lu Qin remained silent.

In the supermarket, it was mostly Lu Qin who was carefully selecting items, while Mo Senlin followed her leisurely behind, his phone vibrating incessantly in his pocket.

After a while, he finally picked up his phone.

Lu Qin glanced at him and asked, “Is someone looking for you?”  “An insurance agent,” Mo Sen replied, hanging up the phone without any expression.

“Oh.” On the other side, several men were gathered around an office desk at Xingrui Company, one of them persistently making phone calls on his mobile device.
